I had a friend from college reach out to me not too long ago and we started talking about one of our backpacking trips to Cottonwood Lakes in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. What a great trip and I was so happy he helped dig that memory out of my archives. After my conversation with him, it dawned on me that I hadn’t thought about that trip in a very long time and I wondered what other trips have slipped to the recesses of my mind. I spent a few minutes going through the memory catalog of my different trips and found there were quite a few I hadn’t thought about in a while.
Some of these trips were amazing trips and some were noticeably more challenging but thinking back on them, I can say they were memorable! But if they were so memorable, why had I forgotten to remember them?
Actually, I did remember them I just hadn’t actively walked through the memory in many years. Some of these trips were taken a long time ago and without any pictures hanging on the walks, it was very easy to let them drift into the archives. But once I started going through the different memories, the recollection process was a fast-flowing spewing of remember-whens. I truly enjoyed each trip once again through the dust-covered lenses of my memory.
These memories are of things that have happened in the past and I was happy to rediscover them. But I was even happier to have enjoyed the moment these memories were made. I even got to create a new moment with my friend as we share some laughs talking about the memory!
Remember to enjoy the memories but, more importantly, be sure to enjoy the moment the memories are made!
Moments are where our lives are lived.

Good thoughts! I don’t tend to be a terribly nostalgic person. I remember impressions and feelings the moments imprint on me more than the specifics, so I truly appreciate the idea behind enjoying the moment the memories are made.
Be in the moment and feel the moment…that’s truly living! The key is in the moment. Sometimes we can’t or don’t remember details but it is very hard to forget feeling!
