In particularly difficult times, I find myself saying “I am going through this for a reason” even when I have no idea what that reason could be. And when things are going smoothly, I feel life is as it should be. The reality is simply that life is always going as it should be; both the highs and the lows. It’s just that I find the need to remind myself that the pain will go away and I will be changed because of that pain.
The pressures and pains of the natural world are continually changing the fauna and flora that rely on it for life. Trees can be bent by winds blowing across the planes and some cacti have been able to survive in the desert for 2 years without water. And the stress of being pushed out of the nest teaches the baby bird to fly. Struggles are all part of living for nature and we are no different.
I struggled for years running an extremely stressful business and I didn’t truly understand the why. I felt it was to grow the business to provide financial security but I was wrong. It wasn’t until after I closed the business that I realized the struggle was to gain skills, knowledge, and patience (along with more than a few gray hairs). Those skills and knowledge are being used today doing what I love and the patience has given me the peace of mind to endure the curves life throws at me.
Understanding and accepting that life is neither good nor bad will give you a sense of equanimity that helps keep you grounded in the present. Remember, life is just life…what are you going to do with yours?
